FCS Education
Job Opportunities
Opportunities are projected to be virtually unlimited for the individual who majors in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Education. The need for middle school and high school FCS teachers is expected to be four times greater over the next 10 years than the number currently available. That means employment rates for graduates of this program are nearly 100%!
Appalachian State University FCS Education graduates are well prepared to teach, having gained much practical experience with adolescents, both in and out of the classroom setting. Students work with adolescents in their introductory teaching and adolescent development courses. They observe weekly in a FCS classroom during their introductory FCS education class. Finally, students spend 15 weeks student teaching in a FCS classroom in a public school.
All recent FCS education graduates have been heavily recruited by school districts and have received multiple job offers.
