Graduate Scholarships
Scholarships and Teaching Assistantships are available to graduate students entering a MA degree in Family and Consumer Sciences. Teaching Assistantships provide a stipend to offset living costs, however, by NC State Law, they do not cover the cost of tuition. Scholarships are available through the university and professional organizations.
Departmental Teaching Assistantships
The FCS Department has a limited number of Teaching Assistantships available to students getting their M.A. in Family Consumer Sciences in Child Development and Foods and Nutrition. For the Foods and Nutrition students, these assistantships are available for their first year in the program. Teaching Assistantships are competitve as there are a limited number available in the department. The department offers one assistantship that will waiver out-of-state tuition fees.
Teaching Assistantship experiences are dependent on the professor the student is assigned to. Some of the responsibilities may include assisting a professor with an undergraduate course, working for the departmental chair, assisting with the foods labs, and helping with research projects.
Students who are awarded the assistantship will be expected to work 20 hours a week in addition to their assigned coursework, research responsibilities, and other responsibilities assigned by their graduate advisor.
To learn more about teaching assistantships, see the Graduate School Website.
