TYPE OF PROGRAM
- A combined Graduate Program/Dietetic Internship housed in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS). August Admission Only.
- A two year program with the graduate course work required in the first two semesters prior to beginning a supervised practice program in the second year. Supervised Dietetic Internship (1080 hours) in regional health care agencies such as hospitals, long term care or restorative care, dialysis units, wellness clinics, school food services, and public health departments.
- Approximately 30 clock hours of practice per week during the supervised practice plus a weekly didactic class at Appalachian State University.
- Students who successfully complete the program receive a Master of Arts degree and a verification statement signed by the Dietetic Internship Director are then eligible to write the Dietetic Registration exam.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
- Completion of an ADA approved Didactic (Bachelor's Degree) Program in Dietetics (DPD) and a verification statement signed by the DPD Director.
- Acceptance into the Family and Consumer Sciences Masters of Arts Program
- Submission of Dietetic Internship Packet to DI Director. Packet must include:
- ADA Standard Internship Application
- Official Transcripts of Academic Work
- DPD Verification Statement
- Applicant Letter: Address the following points in your letter
- Your professional goals
- Your reasons for choosing to apply to the ASU internship which should demonstrate that you have done research on the ASU program.
- Your strengths and clearly explain why you think you could successfully complete the ASU Internship and meet or exceed all of its standards.
- Areas that you feel you need to develop personally and professionally and how you think the ASU Internship can help you do that.
- 3 Letters of Recommendation-using standard ADA form
- Application Deadline: Early February
