Master of Arts degree in Family & Consumer Sciences requirements:
• 30 semester hours of graduate coursework including thesis OR
• 36 semester hours without thesis*
• Thesis is optional and counts toward 1-4 semester hoursRequired courses include:
• FCS 5001 Orientation to Research in Family and Consumer Sciences (3 s.h.) AND
• FCS 5002 Family and Consumer Sciences Perspectives and Integrative Frameworks (3 s.h.)An additional 16-18 semester hours should be completed in Family and Consumer Sciences courses.
This may include the 1-4 semester hours for thesis.The remaining semester hours could be completed outside the department. An approved minor outside the department of 8-12 semester hours or various electives outside the department totaling 8-14 semester hours will fulfill elective requirements.
The student’s advisory committee will administer a written comprehensive examination during the semester prior to graduation. An oral defense of the thesis is required when selecting the thesis option.

Prerequisites and Application Criteria
1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
2. (Undergraduate GPA X 400) + GRE Verbal + GRE Quantitative = 2000 OR Undergraduate GPA of 2.75 or greater and GRE Writing score of 3.5 or higher
3. All applicants must submit 3 recommendations with their application. The deadline for Fall admission is July 1, for Spring admission is November 1, and for Summer admission is April 1.

Language Proficiency
The language proficiency for entrance into the program may be satisfied with the following courses, taken either before entry into the program or during graduate study.
STT 2810 Introduction to Data Analysis and Statistical Inference
STT 3820 Statistical Methods I
OR
FDN 5600 Educational Statistics, or equivalent
*A student entering the program with curricular deficiencies may be required to complete more than the minimum number of hours for completion of the program.
