Lucy Brock Child Development Center is a full-day program, open five days a week. The center is closed on state-recognized holidays as designated by the university’s Human Resource Services. The program is closed some additional days to allow time for professional development of staff, for teachers to visit each child at home, and for vacation time for staff. All closings are announced in the annual calendar (if the information is available at publication) and in the center newsletters. In addition, signs are posted in the entryway of each classroom for several days before any scheduled closing.
The center is open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. Children are to be brought to the center and picked up during these times. So that all children in a classroom can be on the same schedule in regard to alertness, time for meals and snacks and time for naps, parents need to bring their child by 10:00 am. The count for lunch is verified at 10:00 am.
Generally, the center will close for inclement weather only when the University closes (when staff are told not to report to work). This will be announced through the University’s public information office, and on local radio and television stations. If the department or director determine that opening the center would create danger for staff or children traveling to school, an announcement of the closing will be made on WATA Radio (1450 AM; 100.7 FM). In rare instances of severe weather, the center may be forced to close early. In this case parents will be called to come pick up their child.
