Welcome to the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences!
If you are looking for an exceptional academic program which will prepare you for an exciting career in child development, apparel and textiles design and merchandising, nutrition, food systems management or family and consumer sciences teacher education
YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE.
We offer both undergraduate and graduate programs, exceptional field study experiences, vibrant student organizations, and a top notch faculty who will both challenge and mentor you. Our department content area has been a part of Appalachian’s history since 1915 beginning with the efforts of Lillie Shull Dougherty. We are highly student oriented and offer 12 named scholarships which you can learn about on this website.
Our Family and Consumer Sciences program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation, American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, and our dietetics program is fully accredited by the CADE, Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education. In addition our teacher education programs share in institutional accreditation by NCATE, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
